Silly Goose Farms PDX

Silly Goose Farms is an intimate, one-goose operation born from over 10 years of experience working, learning, and teaching on farms in New Jersey and Oregon. The farm is located on the unceded land of Gresham*, just outside of Portland, OR and is currently a member of the Headwaters Farm Incubator.

As a first-generation farmer, David Oberstein (AKA Silly Goose) has a deep passion for stewarding the soil and producing high-quality vegetables and fruits. The farm operates with care, respect, and a sincere obsession with the CSA model of food distribution, aiming to provide fresh, locally-adapted food to the Portland community through weekly CSA shares or at the PSU farmers market on Saturdays. Silly Goose Farms’ is motivated by creating the best conditions to feed soil biology, in turn creating the ideal conditions for each seed and plant to flourish and fully express itself, turning each harvest into a celebration of the unique potential within every plant.

Silly Goose also wants to root in the agricultural work of his ancestors, and will be cultivating varieties with ties to his Jewish and Slovakian roots.

*Silly Goose Farm resides on the unceded territory of the original peoples of this land—the Cascades and Clackamas and other tribes and bands of Chinookan peoples who lived and thrived in profound, complex, and interdependent relationships with the land for time immemorial—long before white colonial settlement. Silly Goose Farms will make a yearly donation to a Native-led project within the Portland area as a personal land tax in honor of the original inhabitants.
